When I called, Dad said that he wasn't having a good day. "Emotional things, you know?" He's worried about the kidney disease, and I'm glad he's taking it serious. I got him talking about his first full day home, he said that he had a nice time out on his patio in the morning watching the birds.
We talked for a long while, on speaker phone with both Mom and Dad (and Paula too!). We could tell it had been an emotional day. Mom said Kevin had stopped by just when she had been upset and so Dad got a lecture. Then Dad made me laugh when he said, "I need someone who will be on my side!" I told him exactly what the doctors had said, that Mom was in charge and that he was to treat her nice because he needs her. We all laughed and there wasn't any lingering tension from the day.
We talked about family, and how the grandkids were doing. Dad came out with another pretty good quote: "about the time you learn how to be a good father, it's all over raising them." Well, I'm here to tell you Dad that we need your fatherhood even as adults. I still want you to hear about my problems and give me advice.
I guess it's been very hot in LHC, 114 degrees and still rising when we talked in the afternoon. BnB mentioned that Candis and Eric will be staying with them for the 4th holiday. That should be interesting.
Update: after we had talked, Mom told me that Dad got the itch to sing some karaoke. She cried with joy when she told me how he was able to get the system all set up, and sing a tune for her without any trouble.
What a nice way to end the day. A song for the ladies.
