Dad came home today, woohoo! Arrived about 10:30 AM, and the first thing he wanted to do is put his wallet, coins, and pocket knife in his pants so that he would be "a real person." He's taking a nap right now, but I did hear his voice for just a few minutes and his spirits are high. (Mom's too)
Sharon came by for a visit shortly after he got home.
He had some PT today before he left the rehab center. He also had a visit from the dietitian, explaining what his new kidney friendly diet would be. She explained that Dad's eGFR score was 29 (but sodium and potassium were both good) which puts him in category four on a 1 to 5 scale of kidney disease, with category one being normal functioning kidneys. So, that's pretty serious and he needs to take this diet serious as well. Mom described a bit of what is on it and it sounds like he can have some of just about everything, so he doesn't have to eliminate too much. One of those things on the "eliminate now" list though is pickles, and for some reason that really bummed Dad out. Mom will need to get a "gram scale" and start weighing portions. I guess the dietitian doesn't have a very good bedside manner, which didn't help things I suppose. You could at least be nice when you're taking a guys pickle away, sheesh!
Last night I reported that Dad was real worried about the pipe repair, and I'm happy to say that Kevin handled it in usual form...good as new. Dad said that he wanted to kiss him for fixing it. eeewwwww, sometimes I'm glad I live 1300 miles away. No one needs to see that.
Next week will be a busy doctors week. He will see his regular doctor (Dr. Sosey) on the 6th, the Neuro doctor on the 7th, Outpatient Rehab on the 8th from 10-noon. I bet there will be plenty of napping next week. ;-)
The doctor gave no restrictions on where he can go. Riding in the car and going to the grocery store will be fine. Dad just needs to be careful, watch his balance and make sure he doesn't fall or bump his head.
All in all a very good day. Welcome home Dad. It's so good to have you there.
