I spoke with Mom and Dad last night. Both sounded tired but were excited about the fact that Dad gets to come home today, probably around 10a but that depends on when the doctor shows up to check them out.
Yesterday was an eventful day, as they took a field trip to the house to see how Dad would do and check the place over for safety. The car ride didn't bother him at all and he said that it was "like another world" outside. It was a good feeling to see his home again after being gone for so long. The PT recommended that some pieces of furniture be moved to make better pathways, things like that. Dad seemed to navigate the house well and the couple of entry steps into the house from the garage were not a problem. They showed him a safe way to get into and out of their walk-in shower. The PT didn't think he would need a seat of any kind, so that's good.
I asked him what was the first thing that he wanted to when he got home and he replied, "finish those steps in the backyard." lol He's still got his sense of humor. We talked for a little bit, more seriously now about things like those stairs, and how he'd let some things become too important. That's a good message for all of us. I need to make sure that my priorities and my "have to do's" are in the right order. Thanks Dad for the reminder. He and Mom love to sit on their patio and talk, watching the birds and drinking their coffee. It will be good for him to resume that comfortable tradition.
Dad had another headache today, on the other side of his head. Mom thinks it's because they made him do math today and "that always makes his head hurt." That made me chuckle, how many kids have told their parents that over the years? =)
Dr. Ron thought that Dad should have another CT scan just to see how things are progressing. He told them that Dad would have to be careful about a few things, like not getting angry or lifting more than 10 pounds etc., and to watch for any change that might signal a reoccurrance.
We're still concerned about the news on his renal function. It sounds like Dad's kidney's are functioning at about 60% of normal. They can treat this, but part of that treatment is a special diet. "Bland and tasteless" as Dad says. Check the "Information Links" item on the right of the screen. I've posted some information about kidney disease. I'll use this section of the blog to list all the information we're finding about Dad's condition and recovery.
They had a small pipe break in their drinking water system at home, and Kevin was busy fixing it when I called. Dad was really worried about this, and how long Kevin had to be over at the house doing "his work." Dad has always been such a hard worker, and proud to take care of his own family and chores. He's got to make an adjustment hear that will be hard for him ...allow others to help him.
So, relax and enjoy your day Dad. It's so good to have you with us.
