Dad and Mom continue to attack the Dad's recovery with the same zest they've always had. Dad's been a bit more active lately, having friends over and going out with friends to the air field. He's also been doing the computer more and painting a bit. He painted Paula a lovely little bird that she adores. Hung it straight up in the entry hall of the house. I hate to make you all jealous by telling you about it, but we're so proud.
We stay in touch but I'm not calling every day like I had been the first couple of months. They seem to have settled into a pretty good routine, with doctors visits and therapy three days a week and exercises and cognitive "homework" at home. He shares his puzzles with us and we struggle to figure them out sometimes, so it's not just easy-peasy stuff. His care givers tell him how lucky he is to have recovered so much functionality so quickly, and how rare that is. They also encourage him to try more, and keep stretching himself which I also tell him. (he has no shortage of people telling him what to do!)
The physicians are monitoring his kidney function closely, and are concerned about them. He seems to have lost some function there and no one's quite sure if it had declined rapidly as a result of something during the stroke or if it had been on a steady decline for some time. He has no ill effects from the problem which makes it hard to commit to the diet that he's supposed to be on. The other day we called and he had had pancakes and Mexican food, and then cupcakes. tsk tsk, not a good kidney diet. He mostly does what he's supposed to tho' and only falls off the wagon maybe 1-3 times a week.
Things are cooling off a bit and so they are able to enjoy their mornings on the patio watching the birds a bit longer into the morning. It's such a nice place to sit and have a cup of coffee, and start your day with the beauty of God's creation all around you.
since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
