Talked with the folks and they seemed to be doing well still. They are working to keep the medical issues from consuming their life, but that's a daily struggle with everything going on.
Paula, Brandon and I had just come back from a trip to Tim's farm in Nebraska where we met Pam also. We chatted about all the news from there. I think they would really love to see Tim and his family up there doing so well. It reminds me of what Dad's childhood must have been like on the rural farms that he lived on. We talked also of local SPKB family comings and goings, which are too boring to delve into here.
We sent a little package with a puzzle in it since this is how Dad exercises his mind now. There's a puzzle of the US that he can do in about 28 minutes. Takes Mom about 23 to do it. Someone is showing progress!
The latest news is that the doctors feel like Dad has progressed enough that he can be alone now for a period of time. That will give Mom some time to run and errand or go see her mother which will be nice. They (the doctors) also said that it would be good for Dad to go to the grocery store (while Mom waits in the inside cafe or something) with a list of 3-4 items to buy and checkout. Part of his occupational therapy.
He still suffers from the blind spot on his right side, but they continue to encourage him to work it and see how much improvement he can attain. Dad says he's getting used to it although he knocks over a glass from time to time when on that side. He says he's getting stronger all the time and I'm still amazed at how hard they both work at his recovery. Truly a team effort. Dad says he's capable of doing more than he is and so wants to try.
In local news, the boaters are out in full force in LHC so the town's been busy, but that doesn't stop BnB from frequenting their favorite diner (Papa Bears) for a couple of meals a week.
They've not received the test results from the sonogram or the blood work that was done on behalf of the nephrologist. Should have that in the next couple of weeks. They are working on the renal diet but not liking it too much. The nutritionist is good, but it's still hard to change after all these years of eating whatever you want.
Mom and Dad seem like they would like to do a little traveling, but don't have clearance yet to change altitude or be in a pressurized airplane. Will ask next time while at the doctors to see if there's a change. He sees the audiologist on Friday.
You all have noticed I'm sure that my updates have slowed. Dad's progress is steady and I will continue to blog about it for some time, but will post only when there is something to say of interest. Mom and Dad really appreciate your love and support and your efforts to communicate with them during this time. They always tell me how thankful they are for the support of their family and friends.
