Today starts my "remote updates" on Dad's condition. I'm back in Overland Park, Kansas now and get the information from telephone calls with the family.

Today was a bit of a tough day as many of us had to leave LHC for home, leaving Mom and Kevin as the primary support group. (along with their families). Dad continues to do well and to improve. Monday through Friday there is a pretty full schedule of various therapies, along with group meal times.

A new doctor came to call on Dad today, Dr. Ron (last name?) . Mom thinks he is a neurologist, but isn't sure. He'll be checking in about three times a week. He said that Dad is doing remarkably well, and would continue to improve for about 18 months (most of that as an outpatient) so it is important that he work at it. Dad's up for the task and remarked several times while I was there that he WILL get better. This is the first indication we've had of how long the journey will be, but Dr. Ron was encouraging and thought that Dad would make a full recovery.

Today he worked on his writing skills, using the alphabet and writing his name. Mom said that he can sign his name just like he used to now. We had him sign some forms while he was still in Las Vegas and that was a real chore then, so another good sign of improvement.

A new PT was in Rehab today from the hospital and let the two old birds walk without the training the support person is supposed to have. Those crazy kids, always gettin' into trouble! Later this week Mom will get the training from the PT folks, so that they don't have to go to the pokey if they try it again.

Mom was a little down today when I first talked to her but quickly perked up. She's not sleeping as well as she needs to, but once she's into a routine she'll do better. So much has changed with daily life that it is an adjustment for both of them. Please pray for Bob and Brenda. They are a powerful team, and work best together.
