Pretty good day for Dad. He only has PT on weekdays so the weekends give him a little more time to relax. Mom of course was with him all day, and they walked around the rehab center to get some exercise.
He tried to do a little drawing today, but wasn't satisfied with his results. He has a small white board that he can use to doodle on, and then erase. Mom wanted to capture his first attempt but he wiped it clean before she could. He sat down for lunch today and was looking for his fork (which was placed on his right, harder for him to see) and finally found it and then said, "Fork: F-O-R-K." Spelling it easily. Mom was so impressed and making a big deal about it and Dad was like, "of course I spelled it, sheesh.." As readers of this site know, he's been having trouble remembering his written language skills, so this was great news.
Dad's been headache free for a couple of days but did have a small one today. Tylenol still knocks it out, but can also knock him out as it did today. Lots of napping. The walks kept him from sleeping too much and they were able to sit outside on a bench for a while.
He stayed in his room for dinner, so he could watch "Hucklebee" as he calls it. [Mike Huckabee on Fox] So that's a good indication that his mind is making a full recovery. Dad's been very much into politics lately (prior to the stroke), following the news closely and it's good to see him have that interest again. He's also getting his independence back, and got in trouble last night for walking in his room without supervision. (you go Dad!)
Here is a shot from a couple of days ago that shows that feistiness. I'm not sure what's going on in this one on the left, but it looks like Dad's saying, "it's okay, I've got this."
There are a few new patients at the rehab center, which helps make things interesting since they eat and have therapy together. These newbies are "more our age" according to Mom. They're nice to talk to.
They are both counting the days until Dad comes home. Mom is lonely at home without her partner of 50+ years.
