More detail

Had a conference call with Dr. Bledsoe, Kevin and Mom to go over dads condition.  The bleed that dad has last year measured about 6 x 3cm and was in the left rear portion of his head.  This new bleed is in the left mid-front area which controls muscles on the right side of the body as well as speech.  This new bleed measures about 5 x 3cm and altho' similar in size to the previous bleed, they affect different areas of the brain.  He mentioned also that there was a small bleed that was in the old area.

The doctor said as of now, dad was not processing his commands, and feels like this will most likely lead to dad having some permanent issues with his ability to move his right side and speak on his own.  How much is uncertain, and the doctor pointed to dad's solid recovery from his  first stroke as an indicator of that.  He kind of made it seem like that same level of recovery was unlikely tho' and that dad would need some nursing home care for some time to come.  He said that statistically left side victims don't do as well as right side in recovery.

Dad is stable and while still on a ventilator, his breathing isn't affected by the part of the brain that is damaged.  The doctor said they will continue to give him the full work up, with an MRI on order and daily CTs for awhile to check for swelling and increase in the bleeding.  The two scans that have been done so far show no signs of a continued bleed.  The Dr. indicated that surgery wouldn't be considered unless needed for life-saving measures and the surgery would not change the prognosis for recovery.
